February 2 is Twintail Day, a Japanese holiday which held annually to celebrate the “twintail” hairstyle on social media. A news website in Japan, Anime! Anime! conducted a survey to find out which twintail anime characters are their favorite.
To give you information about Twintail Day, it is an annual holiday held in Japan every February 2 since 2012 up to the present date. In December 2011, the Japanese fashion designer-photographer and the president of a company Laugh Valley, Kan Furuya launched the Japan TwinTail Association. The following month on February 2nd, 2012, the holiday Twintail Day was registered with the Japan Anniversary Association.

Entering the number 8 spot is Rin Tohsaka from Fate/stay night, next is Arisaki Ichigaya from BanG Dream! at number 7, followed by Rize Tedeza from Is the Order a Rabbit? at number 6.
At number 5, we have Eriri Spencer Sawamura from Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend. Number 4 goes to Kuroko Shirai from A Certain Scientific Railgun.
Azusa Nakano from K-ON! gets the number 3 spot due to her cuteness and strong personality. One of the respondents told Anime! Anime! that it is their favorite anime when they were in elementary school.
Number 2 is the queen of the vocaloid world, Hatsune Miku from the music rhythm game, Project SEKAI. One of the comments on the survey told that the unique color of the twintail that looks like blue or green is beautiful. Coincidently, it is the 15th anniversary of Hatsune Miku’s debut this year.
Finally at the number 1 spot, the Japanese fans voted for Niko Yazawa from Love Live! School Idol Project as their favorite twintail anime character. Niko Yazawa was popularly known on her signature “nikko nikko nii!” pose. A respondent told that She’s always cute with twin tails, but her long hair is also cute! She sometimes shows her natural appearance, which is also gaining popularity.
Japanese news website Anime! Anime! conducted the survey from January 13 to January 20, 2022 and they have received 1,257 responses within the said timeframe. In terms of gender, 45% of it came from males while 55% came from the females. While in terms of age bracket, 75% came from age group 19 years old or younger, and about 15% came from age group of 20 years old or older.
